XCOM 2 is coming to consoles, and honestly? It's about time.
The follow-up to 2012's strong return for the turn-based strategy series in which you repel Earth's alien invaders was released for PC on Feb. 5, 2016. The 2012 reboot came to consoles, but -- to the consternation of fans -- the sequel was announced for PC only.
SEE ALSO:How to build and maintain your powerful resistance base in 'XCOM 2'Now it turns out that publisher 2K Games and developer Firaxis Games have been playing coy all along. XCOM 2 is headed to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Sept. 6.
There's not much more to say about the console game at present. 2K released a fact sheet that suggests September's XCOM 2 is identical to February's, save for the hardware it runs on.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. XCOM 2 is a tremendous game, building on the success of its 2012 predecessor with new strategic tools, a souped up army management game and an assortment of new alien threats to wage war against.
In addition to the trailer above, 2K shared a handful of screenshots. They don't offer any insight into how the console controls might have changed since 2012's XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but you can probably expect to hear more on that next week when 2K settles in at E3.
