Today is WWDC day, and one rumor we've seen repeated a few times is that Apple is planning to launch a new MacBook Air at the event.

With the amount of gadgets Apple is working on for the rest of the year, it might make sense to launch the Air at WWDC, but new reports say that even if that happens, the new laptop might be in short supply at launch.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple had planned to launch the MacBook Air at WWDC, but Covid-related factory shutdowns in China put a dent in that. If the Air gets an announcement today, Gurman expects either shortages, or a "non-immediate release date."

As for what we can expect from the new MacBook Air, it should have a completely new design, similar to the design of the new MacBook Pro machines, a 13-inch display, two USB-C ports, Touch ID, and MagSafe charging.

Notably, both Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo agree that the Air will likely be available (at least initially) in three or four colors, including space gray, silver, and gold. This is contrary to the reports that the Air will be available in a multitude of colors, similar to the choices on offer for the iMac.

As for other news coming from the WWDC, stay tuned for our coverage later today.
