Marvel kicked off its San Diego Comic-Con panel with some typically awesome news -- Michelle Pfeiffer has been tapped to play Janet van Dyne, the first Wasp and mother of Janet van Dyne.
"She was our dream choice when making the first film," Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige admitted during the panel, expressing his disbelief that they actually managed to cast the former Catwoman.
The news was announced via an adorable video hosted by Ant-Manstars Paul Rudd and Michael Peña, which recapped the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe up to this point -- with plenty of snark from Rudd and Peña about their rivals (at one point, recapping The Avengers, they referred to Hawkeye as Alan Alda).
Also announced during the panel, Killjoysstar Hannah John-Kamen will play The Ghost, Walton Goggins will portray Sonny Burch, Randall Park has been cast as Jimmy Woo and Laurence Fishburne will appear as Dr. Bill Foster.
Marvel fans will know that Bill Foster's alter ego is the superhero known as Goliath. The character was created by Stan Lee and Don Heck in 1966. Like Ant-Man, he's able to manipulate his size and mass, and was initially introduced as the lab assistant of Hank Pym in the comics, later going on to investigate the apparent deaths of Hank and Janet.
The Ghost is an antihero who began as an antagonist for Iron Man due to his profession as an industrial saboteur. He then became a member of Luke Cage's team, the Thunderbolts. Possessing a stealth suit, the Ghost is a skilled hacker and marksman.
In the comics, Goggins' Sonny Burch was the chairman of Cross Technologies -- and is likely to be a corporate rival for Hank Pym after the defeat of Darren Cross in the first Ant-Man. James "Jimmy" Woo, meanwhile, is a former FBI and SHIELD agent in Marvel comics canon.
