Barbieand Oppenheimerhad massive opening weekends with record-setting new numbers, then followed their initial success up with very strong second weekends. Now, they've broken a new record altogether.

Given that the chain has been open for 103 years, this is no mean feat. On the weekend of July 27-30, AMC also added that revenue was double that of the same weekend last year.
“The monumental success of Barbieand Oppenheimerhas the entire movie and movie theatre industry abuzz, with discussions of new records and new benchmarks being realized seemingly wherever you turn," said AMC Chairman and CEO, Adam Aron, in a statement. "These two movies, along with the many others playing on our huge silver screens, continue to rewrite what is possible at the box office.”

Despite this huge success, the movie industry is currently in a strange place. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) are both on strike, meaning actors are currently unable to take part in film promotion and the summer release schedule is up in the air.
