If you're trying to play Overwatchright now, just after the new "Uprising" event's launch, maybe go take a walk or play something else.
The freshly launched update, which came in the form of a patch, seems to have mucked things up for Blizzard Entertainment behind the scenes. As a result, a handful of core Overwatchfeatures will be disabled until any gremlins in the system are rooted out.

Blizzard's tweet blames "our latest patch" for the issue, which affects all version of the game: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

As you can see in the message, there's no timetable yet for a fix. Your best bet is to keep an eye on the @PlayOverwatch and @BlizzardCS Twitter feeds.
There are other issues plaguing Overwatchthat don't get a mention in the tweet. One user notes -- and I can confirm -- that 1v1 Mystery Duels aren't currently available in the game's Arcade mode.

The Arcade mode selection screen is looking pretty slimmed down right now:
Credit: Blizzard EntertainmentThere's also the more general issue of not being able to sign in. Multiple Mashablestaffers -- myself included -- have been greeted by a new-to-Overwatchserver queue message when trying to get into the game.
Credit: Blizzard EntertainmentPrior to that -- in the half-hour after the Uprising patch went live -- I wasn't even able to get this far. The game would try to connect to a server and then hang on "Entering game" until it booted me to a login prompt. Entering my name and password (and authenticator code) at that point merely repeated the process.
That issue seems to have been worked out, and was likely a symptom of the heavy traffic Overwatchservers experienced as fans converged on the game to check out the new event. Uprising takes a page from Blizzard's 2016 Halloween event, offering up a 4-player cooperative activity in which Tracer, Reinhardt, Mercy, and Torbjörn all work together to take down attacking Omnic robots.
As is typical for the awesome Overwatchcommunity, the social media response has been a mixture of general humor, Blizzard burns, issue reporting, "make good" demands (not gonna happen, friends), and occasional enthusiasm.

There's also a random, deliciously scathing Ubisoft burn for no good reason (except the chuckles).

Blizzard will eventually fix this. Check out all the glorious, new Uprising skins you'll be able to gamble for in OverwatchLoot Boxes once that happens.
